Falling out of love with makeup

Now that's a title I never thought I'd write!

Falling out of love with makeup? Me? Never! Or so I thought...
I've been wearing makeup for years now, and I'm not someone that has a particularly low coverage routine either. For the past 3 years at least, other than on the weekends if I wasn't going out, I've worn full coverage makeup...and it's a lot of work!

I've never really liked my skin enough to not cover it in foundation, so going to school bare faced was never an option for me. I actually can't remember a day I went in without makeup on if I'm honest. But it didn't really bother me, I loved doing my makeup! Well that was up until recently anyway, where I just sort of lost my passion for it.

Doing my makeup became more of a chore than anything and I just didn't really enjoy it anymore. This was during the summer holidays which meant because I wasn't going out everyday or to school, I just stopped doing it all together. I seemed to stop caring about my appearance less and less and went from someone who did their makeup and hair everyday, to not wearing any and going days without washing my hair. Which to be honest want such a bad thing as I was trying to train my hair to get greasy less quickly anyway.

So at the start of the summer I went abroad to Menorca where I proceeded to burn my face, my nose in particular, so badly that I couldn't actually wear makeup for most of my time there and for a few days when I got back. Go me!! Then a few weeks after that I went off to a festival where I did wear makeup in the evenings, and a WHOLE lot of glitter, but having nice hair sort of went to pot as I'm sure you can imagine.

Then after a whole lot of good times I was back home again and in a bit of a post holiday/festival slump where again, I just couldn't be bothered with makeup. I started actually going out of the house with none on, whereas before the only place I would go with no makeup on was the gym. So in a way I guess it was kind of good because my confidence grew enough for me to do that.

So it's now about a month since summer ended, I'm back at college, and back at wearing makeup. My passion for it has slowly started to come back and I'm enjoying putting it on again, rather than it being a chore. I think some time of not wearing it and giving my skin a breather probably did me good!

I guess the moral of this story is that it's okay to loose a passion for something. It happens to all of us. And sometimes, a little time away from that particular thing can make you run back to it loving it even more.

  1. I feel like I've been falling out of makeup lately. I'm wearing it most days for college and it's becoming a chore and a bit boring. I totally understand where you're coming from!

  2. When I feel like my makeup routine has turned into a chore, I love having makeup free days. I find that this way, I then look forward to putting my face on, and looking more 'me'. But I do understand where you're coming from..

  6. I've had these moments with makeup as well! I'll go through months of loving it and doing a full coverage face everyday to then not wanting to wear any. I absolutely agree, it's totally fine to have these phases. Our skin thanks us for it too haha.

  9. I loved reading this and I can totally relate!! I've never really fell out of love with makeup as I don't wear it for school but I used to feel exactly like this when it came to straightening my hair as I did it all the time for school but now I have no effort and let my frizz free!!
