My makeup geek eyeshadow collection

I used to think single eyeshadows were such a pain in the arse, why would you want loads of little pans that you've got to house, over one already made palette full of loads of shades. That was until I discovered the Z palette and makeup geek eyeshadows, and suddenly creating my own custom palette that only had shades I wanted in became a much better idea!

Makeup geek single shadows are by far my favourite of their kind and I've now accumulated a collection of 9 which live in my z palette dupe. The Z palettes are far to expensive if you ask me so I found a cheaper alternative from Amazon, it's literally exactly the same just half of the price (I'll link it here). I'm sure in the very near future I'll be growing my Makeup Geek collection because those foiled shadows are seriously calling my name, but for now these are the ones I have...

Crème Brule: A soft matte peachy brown. This is one of my favourite shades to put through my crease if I want a lighter shade there.

Frappe: A matte medium brown. Another favourite shade for the crease but I use this one slightly more as it's darker and gives more definition.

Bitten: A dark maroon matte. I use this one through my crease or on the outer v when I'm going for a red/purple toned smoky eye.

Shimma Shimma: A metallic shimmer. This is my most used inner corner highlight shade as it's perfect for brightening up the eye.

Homecoming: A mid brown with gold shimmer. I sometimes use this one on it's own across my lid for an easy makeup look as it doesn't need a crease shade to go with it.

Prom night: A mix of purple and grey with shimmer. This is a really pretty all over the lid shade which reflects different colours in different lights, and changes from a purple to grey.

Blacklight: A purple and blue duochrome. This is my only duochrome shade and it's one of the most interesting shades I own. It really does look completely different whichever way you look at it and it's perfect for all over the lid or the inner corner of a purple look.

Sensuous: Purple with silver shimmer. I mostly use this again in the outer corner v to darken up a look, or I use it alongside prom night.

Burlesque: A burgundy shimmer. I mostly use this for the centre of my lid paired with bitten to create the smoky eye.

I like to use a few of these eyeshadows in one makeup look because as you can probably tell, lots of them complement each other really nicely. To do this and ensure I'm not getting the pigments mixed when I apply them I've been loving my shadow switch* for a quick cleaning tool.

When the lovely people over at the up and coming brand Beauty Essentials who make the shadow switch reached out and asked if I'd like to try one I jumped at the chance and it's honestly made my life so much easier since. I simply swirl my brush in the pot a few times after I've used one shade and the pigments completely removed from my brush ready for me to use another colour without transfer!

You can buy the shadow switch from Harvey Nichols or online from Amazon and I highly recommend as it's such a useful little tool with no mess either. Perfect to take with you when travelling and you can't be washing your brushes before every use.

Do you have any Makeup Geek eyeshadow and what are you favourite shades from them? I need some more to add to my 'want' list!

  3. These colours look so aesthetically pleasing together, now that I know there's a decent Z palette dupe I'm definitely going to consider building my own as admittedly their prices did put me off for what essentially is just a magnet! Love the lilac-y purple too!

  10. Frappe looks lush! I actually find it quite hard to find warm medium browns which seems mad?
I have a few from nyx but they always seem to come out cooler than expected or just orange! frustrating!

  11. These are some really lush colours! I always love going for warm neutrals, pinks and browns. You can never go wrong with them! I only ever use the MAC warm neutral palette now; it's been my life ever since I bought it! I really need to invest in some new palettes!
