My guide to looking after your skin when travelling

Looking after your skin is always important but even more so when you're travelling! Especially when you're going abroad because we all know that airplane air kills our skin!! I'm actually lucky enough to be going abroad twice this year, to Menorca which I am currently on my way to as this post goes up, and Barcelona in October with my friend. I'm also going camping in Newquay for Boardmasters festival in August with my friends too, so all in all I'm a very lucky girl who needs to make sure she's keeping her skin in tip top condition whilst she's away!

Dehydrated skin is probably one of the biggest issues we face when on the go, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone's skin being too hydrated and flying definitely sucks the life out of it. The easiest and most effective way I've found to keep my skin hydrated, other than drinking water obviously, is by using my trusty Superdrug vitamin e hydrating mist. I carry this around everywhere with me, feeling hot? Spritz it! Want to freshen up my makeup? Spritz it! Bored? Spritz it. I think you get the idea! You can use this on top of makeup to freshen you up a little bit, or under makeup and on non makeup days as it contains glycerine which has a priming effect.

Face masks. We all love them but I think we forget sometimes that they don't just have to be used before your holibobs, you can use them during it too! My favourites to use since I've been about 12 are the masks from what once was Montagne Jeunesse but is now 7th heaven. They have millions of different ones, self heating, peel off, charcoal...the list goes on, and the babes over at 7th hq very kindly sent me out some bits to aid my skin during the holiday season! Some of my favourites of theirs to use are the peel off masks* because you can literally feel them pulling the bad stuff out from your face, I'd recommend doing one of these before you go on holiday, but also take one with you to use mid way through and help freshen your skin up a little bit.

Another product that the lovely 7th heaven sent me out were their nose pore strips*. These are some of the best nose strips I've ever used and they certainly get out the bad stuff out of your nose (I would attach a picture of my amazing results with these but that might put you off your lunch a bit...). Doing a pore strip before or during your holiday is such an important step to me because the heat can make your makeup look a bit oilier than usual which will in turn emphasise large pores or blackheads you've got going on. Plus I always find makeup applies much better on a black/white head free nose.

However we can't forget it's not just our skin we need to look after, it's also our hair. If you're going on a hot holiday then if you're not careful you could burn your scalp and the water from chlorinated pools or salt from sea water is a killer for drying out your hair. We've all been there when you get out of the sea to find your hair matted to your head and the struggle that then occurs when trying to get a brush through it. The 7th Heaven argan oil recue mask* is perfect for this as it's specifically targeted to strengthen and add shine to your hair which god knows mine needs after I've been trying to rake a brush through it! Using this mid way through the holiday to help your repair from the damage it's already incurred and also prepare it for what's to come and should help your locks stay shining and silky.

Now if you want to go all the way with this pampering and fully prepare your skin for your holiday then you could use the 7th Heaven softening sock masques* and strengthening nail and cuticle finger masques*. These pretty much do what they say on the packet and I actually gave them to my mum to try as she suffers with dry hands and feet more than I do and her nails snap quite easily, she really liked them and they definitely made her heels feel softer which is great since she's going to be wearing flip flops and sandals on holiday a lot.

These are just a few of the little things I like to do before and during going on my holiday's that have really benefitted my skin. I hope you have a fab time if you're off anywhere this summer!

  5. I use the Superdrug mist everyday as it is! I never thought about taking it away though because of the size of it, I definitely will be next time, I wish they did a travel size! I've never tried any of the 7th heaven masks but the self heating sounds super interesting and the nose pore strips, my nose is my most problem area by far!

  7. I've never tried a hair mask before! How does that work? You wash it out afterwards? I didn't even know the nail ones existed! I certainly need to give these a try!
