I came across these two products when I was researching a lower coverage foundation that I could use for my holiday. These two seemed pretty highly recommended but I couldn't decided between the two on which one I wanted, so naturally I had to et both right!? You see the serum sounded nicer to me, but then I was also worried that for someone who usually wears maximum full coverage on a daily basis, that it just wouldn't be enough for me and that's where the foundation would be better.
Both products claim to do near enough the same thing, last for 16 hours, give your skin a nice glow, but the coverage and finish off them are quite different. One thing that they do both share though is a strong fruity scent, I actually love this and thinks it smells just like I'm smothering my face in fruit when I'm applying it. However if scented products aren't you fave then this will be a big put off as it's probably the most strong smelling foundation I've ever used. For reference I also got both my foundations in the shade 52 Vanilla.
Starting with the healthy mix foundation it provides a decent coverage, medium I'd say and has an almost matte finish to it which is good for summer as it prevents you from looking any oilier than you are. It blends in to the skin really easily and I've found other products to go on top of it really nicely too. I did find with this foundation that by the end of the day it had quite clearly oxidised on me, not so badly that it was unwearable, but I was definitely a more noticeable shade of orange. It also settled in to my smile lines quite badly too, however I find this happens with all fuller coverage foundations on me so this wasn't to much of a problem.
Now on to the serum which is a gel foundation. This one gives a lighter coverage although its still a decent amount as trust me when I say I wouldn't wear it if it didn't cover enough! I'd say it's light to medium although very buildable. The finish of this one is much more luminous and dewy, but not the sort of dewy that makes you look shiny, its much more of a healthy glow which I love. Like the foundation it blended in to my skin really nicely but unlike that, this one didn't oxidise on my skin at all or settle in to my fine lines, by the end of the day it looked just as good as it did at the start.
So overall I was surprised to discover that my favourite of the two was actually the lighter coverage of the serum gel foundation. It's definitely going to be my holiday foundation of choice, providing me with enough coverage but still looking natural and glowing. Another plus of it is it felt so weightless on my skin I almost forgot it was there!
That being said I will probably still use the regular foundation as another option or if I want something medium coverage. I'd love to know if you've tried either of these and which one you prefer.

DeleteI have the original foundation, although I did want the serum as I thought it would work better on my dry skin, but it was out of stock xx

That's such a shame! It's really hydrating! X
DeleteI am so intrigued by the scent, I feel like I'd really like it. The healthy mix serum seems like the one that I'd lean towards. Such a handy post!

These are the first bits I've tried from them but I want more now! X
DeleteThanks for this lovely comparison review, Kate! I have used the foundation before and it was fine, didn't oxidize but it went oily on me quite quickly. But I remember being in LOVE with the texture and coverage!!! I haven't tried the serum but now I am excited to! The concealer from the same range is awful though - wouldn't recommend it.

I'd definitely recommend the gel one! X
DeleteI love both of these foundations. I was even a fan of the original healthy mix foundation formula. The original formula didn't get much attention, I'm glad with the new formula is getting lots of love. I love base products from bourjois!

DeleteI've wanted to try these foundations for the longest time, but have always found the undertone too warm for my skin tone- such as a shame as I've heard so many glowing reviews!

It does, I'm very impressed! D
DeleteI loved the collection of the products. Surely going to add this up in my skincare routine. I am currently using lifecell anti aging cream in order to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles. I highly recommend this cream as it contains retinol which is quite effective in reducing wrinkles.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'll have a look at that! x
DeleteWhich one would you recommend for a very dry skin on winter time?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the serum as it's much more hydrating for the skin during these colder months! x
