Mua luxe velvet matte lipsticks haul and review

The other day whilst I was doing my usual nightly activity, scrolling through twitter countless times, I saw that Mua had just brought out a new lipstick range I knew straight away that it was a must buy! The range contains 12 different matte nude shades so there's one to suit every skin colour, and we all know that matte and nude are the two things I look for in a lipstick. I knew I was gonna like this range!

Sadly the shades don't have names but I decided to get five of the lipsticks and chose the colours #3, #7, #8, #9, and 10, all varying nude shades. Let's talk about the packaging first, its a really pretty metallic gold for most of it but then the bottom part where you'd screw the lipstick up is black with a little geometric pattern on it. I've had a few other products from Mua and thought the quality of the packaging felt quite cheap, with these however it's a totally different story! They are some of the most expensive feeling lipsticks I've ever owned, when in reality they're probably the cheapest! They are quite heavy and feel like they're made out of  a high quality material. The lid is also nice and tight on the lipstick so there's no chance of it coming off in your makeup bag. They actually really remind me of the Urban Decay vice lipsticks packaging wise and I'm a big fan!
Next let's take a look at how stunningly unique these lipsticks are. The bullet is like no other lipstick I've seen before and I'm actually struggling to describe it, all I can say is that like on the packaging it's almost shaped like little geometric shapes. Now you're probably thinking, well that's all well and good it looking nice, but doesn't that make it really difficult to apply? Well that's where you're wrong! If anything the shape of the bullet actually makes it easier. It somehow just means that the lipstick fits my lips perfectly and just glides around the shape of them, meaning you get a pretty lipstick that still works well!

The shade range like I said is also super impressive, and I know that all my shades look pretty similar in the bullets but once swatched you'll be able to see all the variations of nude. There were also dark browns and greys and also darker pinky purple shades in the range too. I just chose these ones as I knew I'd wear them the most.
So on to the actual lipstick and I must say I'm thoughroly impressed. For a matte lipstick they are most certainly very matte and surprisingly not drying at all. I really like the formula and once they're on they aren't coming off for a long time, I actually wore the shade #8 the day after I got these and it lasted a really good part of the day, even through me eating and drinking (and sweating, as it's been seriously hot recently!).

My one complaint would be that they aren't the most creamy lipstick which means when you're applying them I felt like I had to press a bit harder than I would usually to make sure all the pigment was coming off, however other than this I really cant fault the formula and this isn't a problem once they're on, in fact It's probably what helps them last so long!
(From L-R shades are #3, #7, #8, #9, #10)
The shade #3 is a deep red brown colour, #7 is a your lips but better shade ie. my perfect nude, #8 is just a slightly darker version of #7, #9 ish a peachy pink shade and #10 a orangey brown. I apologise for my horrific shade descriptions but that really isn't my forte, I'd much rather you could all see them for yourself in real life!

The lipsticks are completely matte which I love and I think it's really cool that they've brought out a range of just matte lipsticks. They also all have their shade names on the bottom of the bullet in nice clear wording on a sticker of the rough colour of the lipstick, so you can get a sort of idea of the shade from that sticker.
They are from Mua's 'luxe' range which is the slightly pricier end of the brand although let's be honest, it's still extremely cheap compared to other brands. They are priced at £3 each which is an absolute bargain especially since they're coming from the luxe range and I'm seriously considering getting more of these due to the insane price and great quality of the lipstick.

I will leave a link to them on Superdrug here so you can check them out yourself if you want to (you totally should) and please do let me know if you give them a go! These are a definite hit from me and I can't wait to get myself some more shades!

  1. These all look amazing, although the shades do look very similar to one another which puts me off every so slightly as I feel like I couldn't justify buying them all but I couldn't decide on just one shade.

  5. I'm feeling the shade number 9! I would of never been able to say they were from MUA if I looked at them and it didn't say so on the packaging itself! They look really fab and the actual lipstick is so funky, will need to pop in and have a look for myself, but MUA a bang on trend with the geometrics!
