"There's no space left for more bloggers in the industry"

Lets be honest, from the title of this post I'm sure we all know what I'm talking about here. Oh yes, THAT interview... Now I don't want to dwell on the actual interview or Sarah Ashcroft herself who actually voiced these ridiculous and can I just say untrue answers, but more on what I got from the actual interview and how it's left me feeling.

So let's start with the thing that left me and most other bloggers the most angry, her opinion that, and I quote, " I don't think ther's any space for more bloggers in the industry- everyone is one these days." This coming from the girl who has actually put something on her blog about twice in four months, I'm sorry but posting outfit shots on Instagram does not make you a blogger so I don't understand how she can say that.

It's demeaning, patronising and quite frankly untrue. There will never 'not be space' for bloggers. This is a growing industry and I think she's forgetting that not everyone that blogs does it for a career. I know tonnes of bloggers who occupy full time jobs whilst just blogging on the side as something to do, it's their hobby and when has there ever not been enough room for someone to entertain a hobby.

I worry that comments like this will lead impressionable young people to believing that it's true. That there's no point in them starting a blog because there's no chance it can go anywhere. Every blog can go somewhere, whether that's you shooting to fame or staying small like the majority of us and if you never start then you'll never know.

And for those of you who want to make something from your blog then go for it! Who's to say you haven't got a chance, that there's already too many people just like you. I know that the 'big' blogging industry is something very hard to get in to but if you truly want something bad enough then you will succeed.
The last thing I'd like to address about the article (lets be honest though, I could sit here and analyse the whole thing) is her comment towards Instagram feeds. Now this seems like a pretty trivial topic but the way she speaks about it just makes me need to say something.

It comes across that she essentially thinks that she invented the Instagram feed. She says "The amount of Instagram pages I come across and I'm like 'is that my Instagram page' It's flattering, but I want to say to them, 'Look, I know that you love what I do, but you're not going to get anywhere by doing that because I already do it." Well if that isn't the most entitled bullshit I've ever heard then I don't know what is!

I genuinely have no idea what she's talking about here because has she seen Instagram!? There are millions of feeds that follow a theme and look like each other, it doesn't mean that they're copying each other. Since this article I have taken a look at her Instagram for myself and her feed consists mainly of photos of her wearing different clothes in different settings, primarily swimwear and dresses I've noticed, but not one thing about her Instagram feed screams originality to me.

Don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing wrong with her feed, I just think she needs to understand that she didn't invent the 'posting pictures of yourself wearing clothes' theme. In fact I love themes like that, just don't be put off by what she's said if you've got one like that. Unless you're posting the exact same photos as her, as in the actual photo's she uploads herself, then you AREN'T copying!

So the moral of this post is essentially BLOG IF YOU WANT TO BLOG! There is always room for new content creators and we all have to start somewhere, something that our dear Sarah here seems to have forgotten!

  3. This is such an important post Kate, thank you for speaking up about this issue that has really rattled the blogging community lately! Her views are so disheartening and untrue because it's not like she invented blogging, the comment about people copying her Instagram was ridiculous! Blogging has grown a lot over the past few years and I hope it grows more because I love discovering new posts! I'm so glad there are bloggers like you spreading positivity, it's what we all need!x

  4. I think this literally sums up exactly how the majority of us feel, you've said it in the most respectable way, I do feel like sometimes these kinds of blogging dramas can end in a bit of a bitch fest but all of your points are so valid and so true. It's lovely to see how bloggers have come together though after this, we will always support each other and I for one love welcoming newbies into this amazing community :) xx

  5. COMPLETELY agree with everything you've said. Such a silly article and she came across very rude and conceited. Us bloggers will just have to show her that there's room for alllll of us!

  8. I didn't even know who she was until this article. That's probably why she's done it for a publicity stunt. I couldn't agree with you more, blog if you want to.

  9. With all due respect just want to know, who is she? I have no clue.
I agree not all are doing it for earning or to get fame. I have a food blog, which I created because I love cooking and sharing my recipes so that others get benefited from it too.

  10. This is such an important blog post to upload! I feel that mainly people tend to believe that there is no space in the blogging industry but that's only because people don't try. I see so many blogs which were started like two years ago and only 2 posts were uploaded on there, and although I haven't been blogging for along time, I really like it and it disheartens me to think that some people may have quit because 'there wasn't enough space in the industry' which is absolutely absurd!!
But I really love this blog post as it was definitely a message which needed to be portrayed more!

  11. I completely agree with you. Of course there is still room for new and upcoming bloggers. I don't want to hate on the girl - I don't know her but it's sad to see the blogging community represented in the main stream media like this.

  13. LOVE THIS! To be honest I didn't really know anything about this until I had a browse on twitter and boom! The blogging industry is only ever going to keep getting bigger and bigger and there is no stopping it, makes me kind of laugh at what she says as it's ridiculous

  14. This is such a great post! It's great to hear your opinions on this, as it has been everywhere lately and I couldn't agree with you more! It almost screams that she's scared of competition. The whole thing is a little ridiculous. It's like saying there's no room for more singers because there's already a lot; it's just not going to happen xx
