5 ways to help you sleep tight at night

I've always been someone who struggles to get to sleep, I don't have it so severe as some people but for as long as I can remember I lay awake for what feels like hours before I can finally nod off each night. Lately however I've been doing things a bit differently and they seem to have improved my quality of sleep and the time it takes me to finally fall asleep.

1. Giving yourself something to think about. Now I know this is not one everybody will find useful as some people like to have a clear head when they go to sleep. But I actually like to think about things, it could be anything from my plans for that week to my fantasy date with Harry Styles (I've had that one a few times!) So every so often I like to look in my diary and job my memory of what things I've got coming up, then usually by thinking about them my mind will just drift off and I'll fall asleep.

2. Taking some time away from the screen. We all know that looking at the bright screen of your phone just minutes before we are about to sleep is not the best idea, and no night mode on twitter does not make it any better! An hour or so before bed time try and put the phone away, read a book or if your like me and aren't to keen on reading, do some adult colouring, that's pretty big these days! Yo could even write out your shopping list or a to-do list for the next day.

3. Pamper you skin. I know that when my skin feels fresh and clean it makes me feel a whole lot better. Treat yourself and give your skin a proper cleanse, maybe even do a facemask. It'll help you feel much more relaxed and ready to hit the hay!
4. Have a hot drink. When I'm warm and cosy it instantly makes me feel more sleepy, so put on your dressing gown and get yourself a hot drink. If you're a lover of tea then use a decaff tea bag instead or if your like me then have a hot chocolate and you'll be sleepy in no time!

5. Get the lighting right. This one will depend on personal preference but if you like to sleep with some light in the room get yourself a night light that provides just the right amount of light to make you feel comfortable. Then on the other hand if you like pitch black when you sleep make sure your room is as dark as possible, get blackout curtains if you have light from streetlamps coming in and make sure there's no light coming from any chargers in your room. Sleeping in an environment that you feel comfortable in is the key to getting a better night sleep.

So those were just  few of my tips for battling bed time and I hope this might have been useful to a few of you. Thanks for reading.
