Springtime scents

Everybody wants to smell nice don't they, that's a given! But sometimes I think we can get stuck in a rut, using our favourite perfume or body spray over and over again when in reality a new season is the perfect opportunity to spice up your scent library and try something new.

I'll admit that I'm guilty of this, but recently I've been trying to change it up and have actually been swapping my regular perfume for a couple of different body sprays. So I thought I'd share with you my top three for Spring and I've got to say I have been really loving a body spray instead of a perfume and another plus is that they're always tonnes cheaper!
 Body fantasies perfume body spray
Now this is something I've had in the wardrobe for ages now but have only recently cracked out as I've seen lots of people doing posts on them which jogged my memory. The scent is Cherry Blossom and although I can't exactly say I know what that is, nor have I ever seen a cherry blossom tree, the scent to me is a cross between fruity and floral. What I also like about this is that it's scent is a bit stronger than your average body spray and I find this helps to keep it last longer throughout the day.
Layering lab body sprays*
The next body sprays I have are from a brand called Layering lab and I actually have three of these in the scents Cocoon, Oriental and Fresh. The reason I've listed all three as my top scents is because with these sprays you can actually layer them, so whilst you can just spray one and have that scent, you can also spray two on top of each other to create a whole new one which is a concept that I love!  The scent Fresh which is my favourite for Spring is a mixture of citrus, apple and peony which as I'm sure you can imagine is lush, but I also like to spray a bit of Oriental which has spice, berries and floral scents in it on top to create my perfect combo!
Charlie body spray
Now I know I'm really throwing it back with this one but it truly is an oldie but a goldie. Everyone who was anyone used to have a couple of these in their school bag and I seriously think these need to make a comeback. My favourite right now is Charlie Red which smells like a mixture of flowers and more spicy fruits, it's definitely the most musky of all the ones I've talked about. It lasts a decent amount of time on me and unlike the other two this one is in an aerosol can.

So these are my picks for some springtime scents if you wanted to shake things up a little bit and of course most body sprays don't last as long as perfumes, however they're really easy to top up so I think it's definitely worth it. I hope you enjoyed and as always, thanks for reading.

Testing out GOSH lipsticks*

So I'll be honest with you here. Gosh isn't a makeup brand I've ever really delved in to very much, yes I've seen it in Superdrug, but for some reason I've never really tried anything from it. In fact I don't think I'd ever tried anything from it at all!

However this has now changed and I'm no longer a GOSH virgin!! I've been trying out a selection of their lipsticks, three from the matte liquid lipstick range and three of matte lipsticks so I think it's about time I give you the lowdown on them!

Starting with the liquid lipsticks the three shades I have are 002 Pink Sorbet, a hot pink shade, 006 Berry Me, which as the name describes is a berry purple shade, and finally Red Carpet, a vivid red.
Now if you know me you'll know liquid lipsticks are my thangg and I love finding and trying out new ones, what I also liked about the ones I tried is that they aren't usual colours I'd go for and definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. But I'm glad they did as I've now fallen in love with more vibrant coloured lipsticks.

(Top to bottom: Pink Sorbet, Berry Me, Red Carpet)
The formulation of these lipsticks are divine and they glide on to the lips easily offering a full coverage without looking clumpy. They come out on your lips the exact same colour they look in the bottle too which is something I always look for in a lipstick as misleading packaging can be a big downer. They dry perfectly matte and once they're on they aren't coming off! Trust me if they can survive me eating a really greasy garlic bread, they can survive anything! The packaging is very sleek with a clear glass bottle and black lid embossed with the brands name on. Overall I'm very impressed with these and might have to get my hands on the rest of the collection and do a post on them all if that's something you'd like to read?

Moving on to the other three lipsticks from the velvet touch range I have the shades 019 Angel, a peachy pink, 020 Pleasure, a bright barbie pink and 023 Chestnut, a deep red brown shade. All three of them are matte which is my favourite lipstick formula and I have to say, again I'm very impressed with these! They're one of the creamiest matte formulas I've ever tried and ae seriously rivalling my love for Mac lipsticks right now! They last a good 5-6 hours including eating and drinking and the pigmentation of them is stunning. My favourite of the three I have is definitely Chestnut which is a pretty good dupe for Whirl by Mac.

(Top to bottom: Angel, Pleasure, Chestnut)
Again just like the liquid lipsticks they have sleek packaging with them being all black but having the same GOSH logo embossed on them. Then the shade number, name and colour are on the bottom on a sticker. Honestly there really is nothing I can fault about these lipsticks!

So if like me you were a GOSH virgin, or maybe you just haven't experienced the joy of trying out these lipsticks before, I'd really recommend that you give them a go, especially if you like a matte finish! I know I'm definitely going to be getting my hands on some other shades and expanding my collection and I will hopefully try more GOSH makeup in the future and I'll let you know my thoughts on it, see if the other products can live up to these lipsticks. I hope you enjoyed this post and as always, thanks for reading.

The beauty sponge VS the buffing brush

When I was first in to makeup you put your foundation on with either your hands or if you were one of the lucky ones who had a Real Techniques brush which were idolised at the time, then that. We all know that in recent times putting your makeup on with your hands is almost unheard of and its now the battle of the sponge and the brush.
The two products I've got on trial are the Real Techniques buffing brush and Real Techniques miracle complexion sponge.

The buffing brush:
- Blends my foundation really well without it looking cakey
- Gives a really full coverage look which is what I want
- Doesn't gather lots of product up in the brush hairs, the majority of product goes on the skin
- I've had for almost 2 years now and not one hair has fallen out, it's practically good as new

- Can leave brush streaks in the foundation

The miracle complexion sponge:
- Doesn't leave streaky marks in the foundation
- Can get in to all the awkward places on your face like under your eyes better than a brush can

- Soaks up lots of product
- Doesn't give me the fullest coverage
- I don't find it to be the softest sponge
- Get's makeup that it's soaked up all over my hand when I'm holding it

So overall as you can probably tell the buffing brush is the winner for me! It just seems to work the best for me and my skin and to be honest I think I'll always be a brush over sponge girl. I'd love to know which you prefer though and what you use to do you makeup. Thanks for reading.

3 products you need to try from L'oreal

There are certain brands that just get certain things right. For example Makeup Revolution, their eyeshadows are always insane, or Mac, everyone and their mum want's a lipstick from there. But L'oreal isn't a brand I've ever really dabbled in if I'm being honest, I always classed it as the highend of the drugstore and much preferred to stick with good ol Maybelline and Rimmel.

However it's a new year and in that whole new year new me spirit I decided to expand my horizons and pick up some bits from L'oreal to try. Now I'll be honest, there were a fair few hits and a couple of oh god no's as Nikkitutorials would say, but there were three products that stood out to me from the rest and they're definitely the ones I'd recommend the most and am glad I tried out.
Firstly a foundation, I tried three from L'oreal but the one that got my vote was the Infallible 24hr in the shade 120 Vanilla. It's got an impressive coverage which is what I look for in a foundation and actually really reminded me of my favourite foundation of all time, Mac studio fix fluid. It blends out really well and last all on me without settling in to my fine lines. The only one complaint I have is that I find it oxidises quite a lot on me, luckily not so bad that it's noticeable but on fairer skins than me it may end up looking quite orange.

Another skin product that stood out to me was the L'oreal golden highlighter. This is the most satisfying texture ever, its in a pot where it feels very creamy but then once you've applied it, it dries like a powder. It's goes on without looking cloggy and reminds me of a slightly more noticeable Mary Lou-manizer. I've actually also used this on my eyes as a lid colour and it worked really well too!

The last product was the L'oreal gold obsession lipstick. I've never had a lipstick like this before but it's an incredibly unique colour- well obviously because it's gold... Although I wouldn't wear this lipstick on it's own unless maybe I was going to a festival, I started putting this over the top of my nude coloured lipsticks and it leaves a really pretty metallic sheen over the top. My favourite lipstick to pair it with is Modesty by Mac and it just adds a little something extra and is definitely a must in any makeup collection I think.
(Top swatch is lipstick, bottom is highlighter)
So these are my top three picks from L'oreal but I'll definitely be trying more products from them to find some more that I love. If you've got any favourite products from L'oreal then please let me know so I can try them out. Thanks for reading.

A letter to my younger self

Hey Kate,

I know your not the happiest right now, you think that life's throwing all the bad things your way but I promise, it gets better.

Stop worrying about what others think of you, if you want to wear something, wear it! If you have an opinion on something, speak your mind! I promise you you'll feel much better once you do. You'll soon see that having confidence in yourself makes everything much easier and helps you do things you never thought you could do.

So you've had a set back in your newly working life and maybe your not letting on how much it's affected you. But don't let it knock your confidence, you're still you and bumps in the road are inevitable. Talk to someone about it, it'll help, and then move on. Start a new chapter and I'm telling you that things on the job front will look up.

Friendships. They're something you've always been plagued by but stop taking the shit you don't deserve and walk away. You'll read some pretty nasty stuff about yourself and as much as you'll pretend it doesn't hurt and that the things said came from people you don't like, so it doesn't matter anyway, it does hurt. Really fucking badly. But acceptance is key and learning to accept that yes what these people said knocked you down, it's time to get right back up again, you aren't the things you've been called, your a much bigger and stronger thing than that and just like the job front, friendships will start to pick up too!

You'll become closer to your current friends (or friend should I say), you'll reconnect with old friends and you will even make some new friends, not just in college and working life, but over the internet too. Mum and dad will still be convinced the people you're talking too online might not be 100% genuine and that maybe they're some creepy 60 year old, but you'll learn to tell the fake people from the genuine and let's just say you're gonna end up with some pretty amazing internet friends. Because sometimes they're easier to talk to than the people you see everyday. No matter what though just be yourself, you've always been pretty good at making a fair judgement on people but remember to give everyone a chance, sometimes you'll be surprised.

When you move up from secondary school to college don't expect your life to turn out like one of the many fictional books you've read. Because trust me, it won't! Yes things will change and new experiences will be everywhere, but everything won't just automatically fall in to place and there will still be bumps in the road. Your still you and that means you won't constantly be doing spontaneous things or getting in to rebellious mischief because that just isn't Kate. Do expect fun though, because you'll get better at doing that!

You'll also learn that you seem to get on well with people older than you. Probably because of your mature nature but also because you've had enough friendship drama to last you a lifetime, and with mature friends comes a happy life and one where there isn't constant bitchiness every five seconds. Something you'll be happy to know you've got rid of for now.

So keep your head up because times coming are set to be better than ever. Just be you and be confident in it, and trust me, you'll turn out great!

Love your future self xx

Winter/Spring lip library

So I've done some googling and Winter officially started on December 21st and ends March 19th which confused me because in my head is already spring. What with Christmas being over to me that meant winter was over too, despite the chilling wind and even snow we've had lately. Long gone are the gold eyes and red lips, I've already gone back to my classic pink eye and pink lips. I do have a few favourites though that are appropriate for winter and spring and I thought I'd share them with you in this post.

L'oreal paris colour riche JLO's nude This is a recent lipstick to my collection after being gifted it as a late Christmas presents from one of my friends. It's the most pretty pink shade, quite sheer but adds enough colour that you know its there. It's quite a light pink which is unusual for me to like but it's become one of my favourites to wear this time of year

Barry m matte lip paint 181 trendsetter It's an oldie but a goldie! I've had this in my collection for a few months now but only recently started reaching for it. It's a very nude shade, that looks gorgeous with a more dramatic eye look. I love it because its not typically wintery shade like red but its not a pink for spring either, it's the complete opposite of both but it just looks so good!

Revlon matte balm 240 striking spectaculaire Now this is one of your more wintery shades, its a orangey red with a matte finish. I've worn this is a few times and love the way it applies and feels on my lips, although I'm still not 100% sure if the colour really suits me and it's a bit out of my comfort zone, its a gorgeous shade none the less. Paired with a gold eye this is a sure winner!

Tanya Burr lip gloss candy cane A lip gloss is something a bit different for me as I'm usually an avid lipstick wearer and lipstick only. But this gloss by Tanya burr is the perfect shade or pink and red mixed in that I've just fallen in love. It isn't sticky at all and goes on really well complimenting my skin tone and looking perfect for this time of year. Only down side to a lip gloss is that when it's windy (which is basically all the time) my hair blows in my face ad does tend to get stuck in it. Oh well, you cant have it all I guess!

Colourpop ultra matte lip time square Another new addition but arguably my favourite out all the lipsticks to wear at the moment is this one by Colourpop. It's a pinky nude which lets be honest suits all year round that dries matte but isn't drying on my lips at all. It goes with any makeup look and to be honest is all rounder and the one I recommend the most. I've got a post on how I got my Colourpop products in the UK and for a cheaper price which I will link here if you'd  like to read it.

So that's my round up of lip products for the season and I'd love to know which one is your favourite and what your go to lipstick for this time of year is. Thanks for reading.

6 products I've been loving lately

Favourites posts aren't something I generally do here on my blog as I don't find that I love new products enough to talk about them very month. Recently however there have been a few odd bits and bobs I've been loving and I thought I'd give you the run down on them in this sort of general life favourites post!
To start off with, these cups. How cute are they!?!? I spotted them in Ikea back in January for 50p each and knew I had to get some. My mum bought 6 of the flamingo ones for downstairs in the kitchen but I couldn't resist not getting some myself so bought one of each design and they are now currently in my room purely for decoration purposes.
It's still pretty cold outside and so consequently we haven't been seeing much sunlight. This of course means that some of us are looking a bit on the pale side and need a little help to get that bronzed beach babe look back. I've been loving the Garnier summer body lotion for this recently, it just gives some colour back to my skin whilst keeping it moisturised and healthy.

Another thing I've been loving is a fragrance, and its Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture. I was given a sample of this when in Boots the other day and I've been trying to wear it but sparingly as I don't want it to run out. It's a really nice scent that smells like berries and vanilla to me, I think I may need to invest in a proper bottle of it soon!
On the makeup front I've been really liking a lipstick, eyeshadow and a pigment. The lipstick is Jlo's nude by L'oreal, a really pretty pink shade which lasts all day on me and I've completely fallen in love with. The eyeshadow is a pan by Makeup Geek in the shade Frappe, I've been using this in my crease for a good few months now and its amazing. It just goes so well with any eyeshadow shades and blends out good too! My final makeup love is this loose pigment from Makeup Revolution in the shade Indirect. It's a pinky purple pearlized shade and looks great packed all over the lid.

I know this was a different style post to the ones I usually write but I hope you enjoyed. I'd love to know one thing you've been loving recently. Thanks for reading.
